What Makes Scramblersidecars different to others:
Our outfits should not be confused with budget cantilever style sidecars available from some other companies, these while cheap, typically adopt a simple trailer style suspension system, and are not going to perform the same as a fully integrated solution with braking and trim features. We also do it all in-house, design experience, machining, fabrication, painting / finishing, this allows us to manage cost very carefully. Whilst there are other high quality reputable builders out there, there are also shockingly poor builders, please do your research, look at the weld quality, attachment design, and ask questions.
Why don't you build enclosed tubs:
Motorcycling by nature are exposed to elements, that's what makes it fun. If you want an enclosed tub, go buy a car.
Why don't you build more conventional style sidecars:
We are just starting out as a small business, and with time will likely expand to other styles of sidecars as we get more established, but we want to focus on lightweight, performance adventure sidecars for the near term.
FAQ
What is your design and build process:
Extensive analysis is performed on our chassis structure to guarantee strength and performance is assured. Our builds predominantly adopt DOM tubing and are TIG welded throughout. Our process starts by understanding a customers needs and wishes, and adapting our modular solution to meet those specific requirements, we have modular chassis already built ready to have the customers features built up. Its always best to have the solo bike with us for a couple of weeks to ensure everything is set-up and aligned correctly.
How much does it cost:
We are focused on providing a service that is affordable to the common man. Sidecars should not require remortgaging your home. Being a low volume business we can certainly work within a customers specific budget. Typical costs are as follows.
Outfit built and fully installed: $8K - $16K (depending on bike model and features)
Leading links: $4K-$5K (depending on bike model and shock choice)
Trail correction brackets: $600-$1600 (depending on model)
Adaptions: We will focus on affordability for those in need.
What are your payment terms:
30% At the start of fabrication (materials and parts procurement)
50% At completion of fabrication (labor costs)
20% At completion of installation / shipping
(All charges are subject to sales tax)
Should I buy a used outfit / chair:
The short answer is probably not. Correctly setting up an outfit with precise alignment is no easy task, and has to be unique to the particular bike and sidecar, every combination requires different amounts of toe-in, lean-out, etc. Sorry to say that many outfits out there are not set up correctly. Don't be fouled because an outfit has a reputable builders mark, if its been modified or incorrectly set-up, the chassis and attachments may have been subject to fatigue and even though it looks OK the materials may already be at their fatigue limit.
What if I've never ridden a sidecar before:
Be aware, even 50 years for solo riding experience is not going to help. Sidecars are very different, and many riders have fallen foul to some golden rules (don't put ya feet down, take right handers very cautiously, etc). Here at Scrambler Sidecars we have a ten acre offroad facility where new owners can practice until they have confidence to venture onto the road.
What is the optimized modular platform:
The platform comprises lower structural chassis, unit radius/trailing arm, airbag, shock, brake system, and is common to all our builds. We then build on to these platforms per customers needs, this includes mounting configurations for the motorcycle of choice, and multiple options for seating, handrails, wind protection, luggage, etc.
Can you install to any motorcycle:
The platform is designed to be universal and can be built onto multiple makes / models, however, all require specific mounting configurations, and in some cases a custom subframe can be required. Any sidecar design is only as good as its attachment design, so every combination is studied, and analyised with care and attention.
